Gulu University concluded a productive workshop on developing Agribusiness-Oriented Modular Curricula
Gulu University together with partner Universities and TVETs successfully concluded a productive workshop on developing Agribusiness-Oriented Modular Curricula for Higher Education Institutions and TVETs, held on 26th February 2026 at the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Gulu University under the TAGDev 2.0 Program. The activity was technically led by Prof. Basil Mugonola, whose guidance greatly supported the curricula development process.
The workshop brought together participants from Busitema University, Muni University, Northern Uganda Development Institute, National Instructors College Abilonino, Bobi Community Polytechnic, Kaberamaido Technical Institute, and Serere Institute of Agriculture, Business and Technology to collaboratively design competence-based modular curricula for university students and out-of-school youth.
The modules focus on practical agribusiness competences including production, marketing, financial literacy, and enterprise management to empower learners for employment and self-reliance in the agricultural sector.
This marks an important step toward aligning agricultural training with industry needs and strengthening youth capacity for agribusiness development. Successfully concluded the meeting. We sincerely thank all our partner universities and TVET institutions for their active participation, valuable contributions, and continued commitment to strengthening collaboration and advancing our shared goals

What a great collaborative and supportive approach towards breaching the gap between the university education and technical education,
Impacted by skill development rather than theoretical knowledge.
Students need to utilize the resources and time while at learning education centres to develop skills and knowledge on the practical core areas that are business oriented.
Agriculture is self reliance course, agriculturalist don’t need to cry for jobs, you learnt to be innovative and creative to diagnose rural problems and provide solutions.
Such solutions turn to be your earnings and a gain to a society.
Saving cooperatives for farmers, VSLAs
Poultry production, piggery production, horticulture, mush room production and aquaculture.
Just need to start from where you are .
Thanks.

I greatly commend Gulu University and its partner institutions for initiating this workshop on agribusiness-oriented modular curricula. As a student of Science Education, I recognize the importance of integrating practical skills with theoretical knowledge. Such competence-based modules in production, marketing, financial literacy, and enterprise management are critical for preparing students and out-of-school youth to become innovative, self-reliant, and employable in the agricultural sector. I strongly believe that exposure to these practical agribusiness skills will empower learners to identify real-world challenges, design solutions, and contribute meaningfully to community development and sustainable agriculture.
I kindly urge Gulu University to extend the Agribusiness-Oriented Modular Curriculum to students in education. Gaining practical skills in production, marketing, and enterprise management will empower us as future educators to link theory with real-life solutions, inspire innovation, and promote self-reliance among our students. This programme would be a valuable opportunity for education students to develop both knowledge and practical competence that can transform communities.
