Faculty of Overview
Located in Gulu city, northern Uganda, the Faculty of Business and Development Studies is one of the oldest Faculties at Gulu University offering various undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. The Faculty emerged from the Institute of Human Resource Development which was established in the academic year 2002/2003 with the creation of Gulu University. Historically, the Institute of Human Resource Development started with four academic programmes namely: Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Development Studies, Diploma in Development Studies, and Diploma in Secretarial and Information Management. Due to growth in the number of programmes, departments and disciplines of coverage, the Institute of Human Resource Development was upgraded to become the Faculty of Business and Development Studies (FBDS) during the academic year 2004/05. Over two decades past, the FBDS has significantly experienced growth across departments, disciplines, and programmes. Currently, the FBDS operates with five (5) academic departments, eight (8) undergraduate programmes, seven (7) postgraduate programmes, five graduate programmes, and one (1) PhD programme. The faculty offers disciplines spanning accounting & finance, marketing, public administration, development studies, entrepreneurship, supply chain management, project planning, economics, statistics, ICT, auditing, taxation, monitoring & evaluation, human resource, financial management, business administration, community development. All programmes were duly accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The FBDS strives to be the leading institution in creating value for business and society by providing intellectual leadership, advancing science and practice of management, developing a connected community of academic and business professionals to be agents of change in a world driven by technology and innovation. In this quest, the FBDS advance the teaching and practice of business and management through innovative teaching, rigorous research and effective community engagement for socio-economic transformation; our approach gives our graduates the skills, vision and strength of mind necessary to transform themselves, their organization, and their communities; we are guided by student centeredness, project-based learning, innovation and creativity. We will achieve these through our undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree programmes.Read More
