The Department of Chemistry is one of the six core departments under the Faculty of Science. It was established in 2003 under the then Faculty of Science Education and was later split into the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Education and Humanities in 2008. To-date, the department offers Chemistry courses (core as well as electives) for the Bachelor of Science Education programme and Bachelor of Applied Sciences (chemistry) Programme whose first cohort was admitted in 2018.
The Department has a new proposed MSc. Chemistry programme which is still under consideration for accreditation. The Master of Science in Chemistry program aims to train graduate students with a strong interest in modern chemistry areas, practices, and methods like analytical chemistry, industrial chemistry, water, development of renewable energy sources and energy carriers and environmental conservation. Synthesis and analysis of molecules and their assemblies will enable students to understand the structural and chemical features of these molecules, and their implications in life science and technology.
