The Faculty of Law is one of the six faculties at Gulu University, situated in Gulu City. The Faculty of Law was first constituted in 2010 as a department in the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies, which was later moved to the Faculty of Business. In 2014, the Department of Law was awarded Faculty status with the core mandate of teaching, research, and community engagement. It was established to support the university’s vision and mission through institutionalized legal training to complement and rebuild social order in northern Uganda and the country at large.

Over the years, the faculty has registered some remarkable developments, including an increase in the population of the students from 26 to over 500 students and from 6 staff to over 25 academic and non-academic staff. The number of graduates has also increased considerably, from 23 to 74 in a single graduation. The faculty has four departments: the Department of Private and Commercial Law; the Department of Public and International Law; the Department of Human Rights and Environmental Law; and the Gulu University Law Clinic. Welcome Message

It is with honor that I welcome you to our prestigious Faculty of Law in Gulu University. Our Faculty was established in 2011 and continues to deliver on its mission to be a leading center for legal studies within the greater Northern Region, Uganda, and the East African region. Gulu University is one of the only two public institutions that offer law making our award very attractive. Our strategic partnerships with both international and local organizations have greatly supplemented our learning experiences. Studying law opens the door to a wide range of professional prospects both within and outside of the legal profession.

The Faculty of Law is staffed with highly qualified and experienced lecturers who have mastered the art of imparting knowledge using recognised pedagogies while paying attention to the general wellbeing of our learners. Gulu University also offers a conducive learning environment that is free of congestion and excessive pollution that is associated with big cities. In addition, our learners will find Gulu City and the greater Northern Region to be a thriving hub full of opportunities that they can tap into once they complete their studies.
