UNDP conducts Innovations Needs Assessment at Gulu University
UNDP Northern Uganda Field Office team led by the area Coordinator, Florence Ochola has conducted innovation needs assessment at Gulu University on Monday 4th April 2025 to identify challenges hindering students from being innovative, creating jobs, and impacting the surrounding community.
The coordinator said the main objective of the innovation gaps assessment in public universities is to support the growth of vibrant innovation ecosystems in public universities across Uganda that foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and employability for the youth.
“We are surveying to identify innovation gaps in public universities to inform a programme on Fostering Innovation Ecosystems in Public Universities,” UNDP coordinator explains.
Prof. Davy David Okello Owiny, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor who welcomed the team said Gulu University is for community transformation and there is no way the community can transform without innovations. He, therefore, pledges strong support of the University in the development of the university innovation hub as planned by UNDP with support from Mastercard Foundation.
UNDP together with Mastercard Foundation are planning for a project to establish Innovation Hubs and this is to be implemented in 11 public universities in Uganda.
The survey being carried out is to identify innovation gaps in the 11 universities to inform strategic interventions and enhance universities innovation interventions.
