Parliamentary Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation visits Gulu University.
Parliamentary Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation-STI carried out an oversight visit to Gulu University on Monday 24 February, 2025 to assess and monitor the progress of all STI projects being run by the university.
The delegation was welcomed by Vice Chancellor Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru, Dr. Collins OKello, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, and other members of top management.
The Precision Agriculture whose Principal Investigator is Assoc. Prof. Benedict Oyo and Cassava Processing Projects being led by Dr. Grace Okiror and Dr. Bill W. Khizza were monitored and evaluated.
Precision Agriculture (PA) is a smart farming approach for monitoring and controlling plants’ nutrient requirements and environmental conditions i.e. humidity and temperature to ensure optimal productivity.
PA involves automation of activities like irrigation and temperature control based on based on the sensed data and provides the users with real-time data about plants and soil health using the internet.
On the other hand, the Cassava Processing Plant Project is meant to produce, process and market cassava-based products and derivatives.
