Meeting with the Office of the Government Chief Whip on November 2nd 2023; Gulu University to Expedite Degazettement Process
In a meeting chaired by the Office of the Government Chief Whip on November 2nd 2023 in his office at Parliament, Government informed Gulu University officials to expedite the process of degazettement of Gulu Central Forest Reserve to allow the expansion of Gulu University.
The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua chaired the meeting where Gulu University was advised to get Gulu City Council Resolution allowing the degazettement and Nwoya District Council Resolution supporting the swap land to hold the forest reserve and lastly to quickly change the 500-acre land tenure for swap in Nwoya from lease to freehold tenure in the name of National Forestry Authority.
Denis Hamson Obua the Government Chief Whip assured Gulu University of full Government support within all the Ministries the process would be associated with in ensuring that the process is concluded in the wisdom and interest of the President.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment represented by Beatrice Anywar the Minister of State for Environment and Tom Obong Okello the Executive Director Uganda National Forestry Authority.
Minister Beatrice Anywar said the Ministry is respecting the presidential directive and is upon Gulu University to quickly meet the requirement for degazettement so that the university is supported.
Ogwang Peter the state Minister of Sports represented the Ministry of Education and sports as the mother Ministry of Gulu University.
Minister Peter Ogwang tasked Gulu University to report immediately in three weeks’ time on the progress the meeting agreed upon.
Obol David Otori the University Secretary, Nyeko John the University Busar, Asaf Adebua the Chief Planning and Development led the University delegation in the meeting.
The University promised to work-hard in three weeks and report as demanded by the officials.
