“I will be your advocate of budget enhancement,’’ MP Lokii tells Gulu University
Hon. Dr. Lokii John Baptist, the Member of Parliament for Matheniko County, Moroto district and the National NRM Vice Chairman for Karamoja sub-region has assured Gulu University of his strong support and advocacy to ensure that parliament allocates more funds for the operationalization of Moroto Constituent College of Agriculture.
Dr. Lokii made this assurance on Wednesday 11th March, 2026 from Nadunget during the Gulu University Council oversight and monitoring visit to the Constituent College, Moroto where construction of a Multipurpose building is ongoing.
While speaking to the university council, delegation from Ministry of Education and Sports, and local leaders from the construction site in Nadunget, MP Lokii said he will as well take the discussions to Central Executive Committee-CEC, the highest decision-making body in the Ruling NRM party to see this come to light.
“I will be your advocate of budget enhancement to finish the remaining project for the construction of the Multipurpose building. I sit on the budget committee of parliament, and I have been there for the last eight years. We shall continue with advocacy at committee level and take it to CEC which the President Chairs. I will personally table it before the president and lobby with him,’’ Dr. Lokii said.
He commended Gulu University for obeying the presidential directive made in 2016 and believes this constituent college will be nurtured into an independent higher institution of learning “Moroto University” with independent vote.
“We thank the president for giving us this facility and we will protect this gain as in the NRM theme for the recently concluded elections “protecting the gains. We thank Gulu university, and Ministry of Education and Sports for their immense contributions to Karamoja. We are not yet able to walk on our own. We still lean on you for management, guidance, technical and logistic support,’’ said Dr. Lokii.
Benon Kwikiriza, the RDC Moroto district confirmed his commitment in joining hands with Gulu University to improve Education in Karamoja sub-region through the Moroto University Project, the Constituent College of Gulu University.
Ochira John Pakony, the Assistant Commissioner In charge of University Education and Training at Ministry of Education and Sports, commended the university council and management for what has so far been achieved in making the presidential pledge come to reality. He therefore, cautioned the Engineers to do quality work.
