Gulu University Hosts Training on Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP 2.0)

Gulu University hosted a three-day training on the enhanced Electronic Government Procurement system (e-GP 2.0) from 10–12 August 2026 at the Faculty of Science. The training was conducted by a team from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development for heads and staff of Procurement and Disposal Units (PDUs) from government institutions in Northern Uganda.
The training brought together procurement officers and ICT support staff to equip them with knowledge and practical skills in using the enhanced e-GP 2.0 system, which is being piloted by the Government of Uganda.

Speaking during the opening and closing ceremonies on Monday, 10 August, and Wednesday, 12 August, Gulu University Secretary, Obol David Otori, who represented Gulu University Management, urged participants to embrace the new electronic procurement system.
“Let’s embrace this because everything in procurement shall be done online, and this system calls for fairness and transparency in the government procurement process,” Otori said.

He applauded the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development for organising the training for stakeholders in Northern Uganda and encouraged participants to put the knowledge and skills acquired into practice.
Otori also encouraged participants to provide feedback on the system and suggest improvements that could make it more suitable for their respective institutions.

“This is a chance for stakeholders to suggest adjustments, comment on the development and provide feedback. Do not just take the system as given; help make it better and more user-friendly for all government institutions,” he emphasised.

According to the Accountant General, the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development held a change management session with Accounting Officers in July 2026. During the session, stakeholders agreed on the need for a standardised government procurement system that is more transparent, efficient, traceable and accountable.

The Accountant General noted that e-GP 2.0 provides a response to these needs by digitising the government procurement process and strengthening transparency, accountability and efficiency.

The training is expected to enhance the capacity of procurement and ICT personnel to effectively support the implementation and adoption of e-GP 2.0 across government institutions in Northern Uganda.
