Gulu University Empowers Student Innovators Through Design Thinking
Trained staff at Gulu University led 19 students through a design-thinking process aimed at refining their ideas and strengthening their innovative potential. The programme culminated in six mentored teams pitching their innovations before a panel of three judges. Outstanding teams were recognised and awarded support to continue testing, refining, and developing their ideas into practical solutions. This was part of the three day training from the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment from 14th to 16th October 2026.
In his remarks, Professor Collins Okello, Dean of the College of Agriculture at Gulu University, highlighted the university’s efforts to establish a functional incubation hub in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
The proposed hub is intended to serve students and communities across the Acholi sub-region by providing a supportive environment for nurturing innovative ideas, promoting entrepreneurship, and developing practical solutions to local challenges. The initiative is expected to strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem, create opportunities for young innovators, and contribute to sustainable community development and economic growth.
