Gulu University Council on 28th September 2023 during the swearing in of its Staff Tribunal Members headed by Hon. Baku Raphael Obudra Former Deputy Inspector General of Government.
Gulu University Council on its 57th sitting has on the 28th of September 2023 facilitated the swearing-in of its Staff Tribunal members headed by Hon.Baku Raphael Obudra who was the Deputy Inspector General of Government between 2005 to 2013.
Hon. Baku was sworn in by his worship Barigye Said, the Gulu Chief Magistrate, during the Council meeting presided over by Mrs. Mary Theresa Obbo.
He was sworn in along with other members that includes Gustavio Bwoch who is the Council Representative, Dr. Obika Asinasi Julaina, Senate Representative, Fred Ojok Ongom, the Ministry of Public Service Representative, Ojok Karlo, Gulu University Academic Staff Association (GUASA), Laloyo Stella Apecu Female Representative of (GUASA), Ringtho Robert, Gulu University Senior Administrative Staff Association Representative (GUSASA) and Betty Ajok Gulu Female Representative (GUSASA)
Obol David Otori, the University Secretary said the inauguration of the staff tribunal is lawful under Section 56 of the Universities and Other Institutions Act, 2001 as Amended. And their nomination and appointment is in compliance with section 56(1) (a) to (f)
He added that the Tribunal would hear many staff grievances and steer management to make quality decisions that the Tribunal would not just easily knock.
Omara Moses, the Gulu University Legal Officer praised Hon.Baku saying he has a vast rich legal experience and would support the Tribunal in the right direction.
Gulu University Council blessed the Tribunal through the chairperson Mrs. Obbo who tasked them to be professional in doing their work to support the management function of giving listening ears to aggrieved staff.
In his acceptance speech granted by the Council, the Chairperson promised impartiality and cautioned his members on integrity.
“I know my members come from different Associations but in the Tribunal we shall be using the law and your belongings in Associations must not have influence but rather the law for impartiality”. Hon.Baku said.
This is the first Tribunal Instituted at Gulu University since the inception of the University.
