Gulu University Commits to Collaboration With U.S. Universities

Gulu University has pledged to strengthen collaboration with universities and other higher education institutions in the United States of America, particularly in research, academic exchanges, training, and graduate-level scholarships.

The commitment was made on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, by Prof. Deogratius Mwaka Amos, Caretaker Vice-Chancellor of Gulu University, during a meeting with officials from the Education Office at the United States Embassy in Uganda.

The embassy delegation was led by Michelle Ivy Alwedo, an Education Adviser at the Embassy.
The meeting followed a presentation by the embassy officials, who said the United States Embassy is committed to connecting U.S. universities with African universities to promote collaboration in training, academic exchange programmes, and scholarships at Master’s and PhD levels.

Prof. Mwaka welcomed the initiative, saying Gulu University was ready to partner with U.S. institutions on innovative research.
“We are ready to partner for innovative research with willing universities in the United States. For now, we shall wait for the Embassy to send us the names of those institutions willing to collaborate with African universities, and we shall select based on our research agenda and niche,” he said.

The proposed partnerships are expected to provide opportunities for joint research, academic exchange, postgraduate training, and other forms of institutional collaboration between Gulu University and U.S. higher education institutions.
