Gulu University Collaborates with Ghent University, Belgium to Host 2026 IUC Programme

Gulu University is collaborating with Ghent University UniVLIR-UO, Belgium to host the Institutional University Cooperation Programme (IUC-2026) of the VLIR-UOS.

On Monday 24 February, 2025, the University Top Management hosted a three-member team who came to assess the institution’s capability to host the IUC-2026 Programme. The team was led by Ms. Marlene Vossen from Syspons GmbH, Germany.

Other members were Ms. Sylvia Hoens from VLIR-UOS, who played the observer function, and Prof. Ronald Bissasu from Makerere University, who provided context for the assessment.

The Gulu University Vice Chancellor Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru and members of top management welcomed the team and pledged their strong support for this programme.

The IUC program aims to foster long-term partnerships between universities in Flanders (Belgium) and universities in Africa, Asia and Latin America in order to strengthen institutional capacity and address global and local challenges.

Prof. Duncan Ongeng is the IUC contact person for Gulu University.
