Helen Christine Amongin (PhD) is currently the Acting Head of Department Educational Psychology and Coordinator for Post Graduate education Programme (PGE). She is a passionate Teacher of over 30 years in the teaching profession: more than 18 years as a Secondary School Teacher (Nabumali High School, Kiira College Butiki, Tororo Girls’ School and Nkoma SS, teaching Christian Religious Education, English Language, Literature in English and Religious Studies) and 16 years as a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology, Gulu University (Lecturing Human Growth and Development; Human Learning; Cognition and Instruction; Guidance and Counselling; and Special Needs Education). She did part-time lecturing at Makerere and Kyambogo Universities too. Responsibilities:

Amongin’s area of specialisation is Educational Psychology where she obtained a PhD at Makerere University. Her research interests include but are not limited to Educational Psychology issues: Emotional intelligence, Interpersonal relations, Academic and non-academic Achievement, Co-curricular activities, HIV/AIDs, Self-esteem, Assertiveness, Well-being, Gender parities, Teaching and learning, Growth and development, Special needs education, resilience, peace, Adult learning and Psychosocial issues. Amongin has participated in the Problem-based project run by Building Stronger Universities at Gulu University and produced a short-course for the Common Wealth of Learning on Behaviour Change Communication.

Community Service
As part of Community service Amongin has worked with Save the Children Gulu to train Primary School Teachers on Inclusive Education. She has worked with UNEB as a Scout and Monitor to ensure the smooth running of national examinations and participated in the National Assessment of Primary Education (NAPE) Programme. She is currently a Mother Mentor for the Mothers under Watoto Church Village Homes and the Patron of the Gulu University Teso Students Development Association (TESDA). Before joining Gulu University Amongin was a member of FAWE.
