Matsiko Perez

Chief ICT Services

Perez Matsiko is an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expert currently working as Chief ICT Gulu University with 16+ years of experience in ICT. He holds a Msc. in Data Communication and Software Engineering (Makerere University) and Bsc. in Information Technology (Uganda Christian University). Perez previously worked as Director ICT Services, Ag. Manager ICT/Technical Manager, Head ICT Infrastructure and Network Administrator all at Uganda Christian University (UCU) from September 2009 – December 2020, Part-time Lecturer in Faculty of Computing and Information Technology 2010 – 2018 at UCU, Assistant Lecturer in College of Computing and Information Sciences at Makerere University on Contract appointment in 2011 – 2013.

Before joining UCU, he worked with Warid Telcom (now Airtel) as ICT Support Executive from February 2009 – August 2009 and Britannia Allied Industries Ltd as ICT Assistant from December 2006 – January 2009.

Perez is one of the pioneer Core Engineering Team (CET) for Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) a technical team that championed the inception and initial design of RENU Network (RENUnet). He is the first Capacity Building Coordinator for RENU a position he did for five (5) years. Perez also worked as a trainer/facilitator for RENU under the capacity building program where he diligently participated in delivering ICT trainings and capacity building sessions to RENU member institution’s ICT technical teams in areas like designing, setting up, and administering scalable ICT infrastructure including related services. He also participated in Direct Engineering Assistance program where a number of Universities and Research Organizations under RENU benefited from this program.

He has research interest in network and communication systems, network security and wireless networks.
