Vrije University Amsterdam Researcher meets Gulu University Vice-Chancellor

On Friday the 30th of January 2026, visitors from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, led by James Onono Ojok, the Public Relations Officer of Gulu University, paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor. The engagement unfolded as a meaningful exchange of ideas and institutional goodwill.

Central to the visit Adina-Loredana Nistor, Assistant Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Law. They discussed the role of cultural factors in shaping post-conflict peace strategies. Nistor was particularly interested in examining the effectiveness of reparation programs as mechanisms for fostering reconciliation and social cohesion in societies emerging from conflict.
The delegation was warmly received by Professor George Openjuru, who welcomed the team and underscored the relevance of their research to the region’s post-conflict experiences. He highlighted the importance of integrating cultural perspectives into legal and policy frameworks for peacebuilding and expressed optimism about the potential for a long-overdue academic collaboration between Gulu University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
