Dr. Stephen Ochaya, a Visiting Associate Professor, currently holds a dual appointments within the Faculty of Medicine at Gulu University. He obtained his doctorate in Medicine from the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, with a research focus on Comparative Genomics and Molecular Characterization of Acetyltransferase Genes in Trypanosomes. Associate Professor Ochaya has made substantial contributions to the field of medical research, particularly in the domain of drug target identification in kinetoplastids and malaria vector studies. His scholarly output comprises over twelve peer-reviewed publications and a book chapter, with accrued citations, indicating the relevance and impact of his work withing the scientific community. Dr. Ochaya’s research interests encompass several critical areas in infection biology and epidemiology, including species composition of malaria vectors, feeding patterns of malaria vesctors in diverse ecological niches, and immunological aspects of vector-parasite interations. His investigations have significantly advanced our understanding of, among others, malaria transmission dynamics and vector behaviour, providing crucial insights for the development and implementation of efficacious control strategies in Uganda and beyond. Associate Professor Ochaya’s ongoing research continues to contribute valuable knowledge to the field of vector-borne diseases and public health interventions.
