Dr. Oboke is one of the longest serving member of GUREC, having served since 2011 upon joining Gulu University Faculty of Medicine as a Lecturer grounded in Mental Health. He is a Clinical Psychologist, Lecturer and Mentor. Currently, Dr. Oboke serves as a Lecturer and the Head of Counselling Unit in The University of The Sacred Heart – Gulu (USH-G). He has over 30 years experience of teaching from Makerere University Faculty of Medicine, Gulu University Faculty of Medicine, Lira University Faculty of Health Sciences and now in USH-G. Dr. Oboke has a PhD in Suicidology, earned from Gulu University and University of South Denmark funded by Danida. His PhD entailed mitigating suicide and suicide attempts in post-conflict in Northern Uganda using trained lay community members. The rate of suicide and attempts are lower in Amuru, Gulu and Omoro districts today. Other projects on mental health and trauma (identification and treatment) were conducted in DR Congo, South Sudan, and Districts of Lira, Luwero, Soroti, Gulu, Pader, Kitgum and Amuru within Uganda. He has supported people living with AIDS in Kitgum to understand the psychological effects of HIV-AIDS. He also supported the eradication of Ebola in Bundibugyo 2007. Dr. Oboke is knowledgeable in competency-based curriculum development and assessment, Leadership and Management development, and supports studies in Humanities and other areas of Medicine. He is a trainer of research methods, of research ethics and of Gender Mainstreaming.
