Dr. Apio Esther (MMED, MBChB, Dip Physiotherapy) is an Associate Consultant Physician whose work spans clinical care and medical education. Her role involves clinical teaching, mentoring medical students and residents, and providing specialist care for conditions including infectious diseases (HIV/TB), cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other non communicable diseases. She is also engaged in research, quality improvement, and chronic disease prevention. She currently advances research and training at Gulu University Faculty of Medicine.

Research Interests

• Infectious diseases, particularly HIV/TB co management in resource limited settings
• Non communicable diseases with a focus on hypertension, diabetes, and other non-communicable diseases and their integration into primary care and others.
• Pulmonology research in respiratory diseases, including asthma, COPD, and post TB lung disease.
• Medical education – developing effective clinical teaching methods and mentorship models for medical students and residents
• Health systems strengthening – improving chronic disease prevention and care delivery
• Quality improvement research – using data to enhance patient outcomes in internal medicine
