University of Michigan Donates Audio-visual Equipment to Gulu University

Gulu University on 17th June, 2025 welcomed a two-member delegation from the Centre for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT) at the University of Michigan, as part of ongoing preparations for the highly anticipated CIRHT-Gulu International Conference set for September at Acholi Inn Hotel in Gulu.

The delegation, comprising Ms. Racheal Gray and Dr. Julie Buser, was accompanied by Dr. Pebalo Francis Pebolo, Principal Investigator of the CIRHT programme at Gulu University. Their two-day visit underscored the growing collaboration between the two institutions in advancing reproductive health education and training in Uganda.

On 18th June, Dr. Pebalo led the delegation to the Faculty of Medicine, where they were warmly received by the Dean, Prof. Mwaka Amos. In a brief but impactful handover ceremony, CIRHT donated a full suite of state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment aimed at enhancing the university’s capacity to host hybrid academic events and improve clinical training delivery.

The equipment donated include PTZ Optics remote-controlled cameras, Sony PXW professional camcorder, Multi-channel video switchers, Elgato Stream Deck controller, High-grade SDI cables, USB audio interface, Conference-grade laptop workstation, Supporting accessories such as tripods, power units, and protective cases.

Prof. Mwaka expressed his gratitude, saying, “This timely contribution will not only enable a successful conference but will also transform how we deliver clinical and simulation-based training to our students moving forward.”

On 17th June, 2025, the CIRHT team paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Vice Chancellor In-charge of Academic Affairs of Gulu University, Prof. David Okello Owiny and discussed the progress and impact of the CIRHT partnership, the academic and logistical needs for the upcoming international conference, and future opportunities for student and faculty exchanges.

Prof. Owiny commended the delegation for their continued support and collaboration with Gulu University.

“This partnership has significantly elevated the quality of our medical training. The upcoming conference will be a platform to showcase Gulu University’s growing research capacity and commitment to reproductive health education,” Prof. Owiny stated.

Since its inception at Gulu University in 2021, the CIRHT programme has trained over 300 medical students and 60 clinicians in comprehensive reproductive health care, simulation pedagogy, and inter-professional teamwork.

Under the leadership of Dr. Pebalo, the programme continues to make significant strides in strengthening Uganda’s health workforce capacity.

Planning committees from both institutions are now finalising the conference agenda, call- for-papers, and participant registration processes.
