Gulu university through its collaboration with University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia organizes both student and staff exchange visits.
On 12th September, the students led by Eng. Dr. Jimmy Byakatonda, Senior lecturer at the department of Biosystems Engineering paid courtesy call to office of the Vice Chancellor on their last day at Gulu University and were welcomed by the DVC Prof. Davy David Okello Owiny.
Gulu University and UNSW Faculty of Engineering have been collaborating closely since 2016 through the UNSW Institute of Global Development (IGD).
In March 2024, four representatives from Gulu University led by Dr. Collins Okello, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment visited UNSW.
Discussions between the two higher institutions of learning focussed on key approaches to expand their research and education collaboration through initiatives on renewable energy, agriculture and water infrastructure.
Key to their discussions were to also collaboratively build the knowledge, physical space, staff training, and procedures to establish an Engineering Faculty at Gulu University.
This collaboration also focuses on improving science-related courses, facilitating student and staff exchanges, developing research partnerships, and contributing to curricular development. Recent exchanges and activities have included staff visits, seminars, and joint projects in areas of sustainable energy solutions and climate change adaptation.
The partnership supports research initiatives aimed at community transformation, including projects on climate change adaptation and sustainable energy solutions. The collaboration involves student and staff exchanges, allowing for knowledge sharing and cultural exchange between the two universities.
The two universities work together on developing and improving science-related courses and academic programs and Gulu University was chosen by UNSW particularly due to the significant impact it has on rehabilitating its war-affected region.
Recent activities include a visit by UNSW students to Gulu University, a seminar in March 2024, and joint participation in projects like the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge.
