Gulu RCC applauds Gulu and Lira Universities for hosting CIRHT Conference

A panel of dignitaries that included the Executive Director of CIRHT and Deputy Vice-Chancellors of Gulu and Lira Universities including the Gulu Resident City Commissioner have already opened CIRTH-Gulu Conference officially on Tuesday morning.
The leaders pledged hearing comprehensive discussion towards Reproductive Health based on local community research in Lango and Acholi.
Onorio Ambrose the Gulu City Resident Commissioner (RCC) applauded Gulu and Lira Universities for making Uganda proud by winning an international stake for hosting the 3rd International Sextual and Reproductive Health Rights Conference.
“Actually, learning that Gulu and Lira Universities are hosting this conference based on earned hard work pleases my heart”. He said.
The representative of the President of the Republic of Uganda in Gulu City who was making a keynote welcome address on behalf of the Gulu city authorities said the conference is timely and a signal of hard work of the government of Uganda for bringing peace in northern Uganda to accommodate any international occasions.
“Actually, as a post war conflict area, the issues of unwanted or teen-age pregnancies are one of the challenges that the scholars in this conference need to address”.
“Go anywhere within the city, is safe, enjoy as the conference last”. The RDC said.

Prof. Okello David Owiny, the Gulu University Deputy Vice-Chancellor who made an opening remark on behalf of the Vice Chancellor said the university is committed to the community transformational agenda where sextual and reproductive health rights takes centre stage.
Dr. Tamrat Endale, CIRHT Executive Director said their journey with Gulu University started in 2020 and since then the university has performed well in being their ambassador and promoting preservice training and gathering local community research matters related to Sexual and Reproduction Health Rights
He acknowledged and thanked CIRHT for all the support to Gulu university that include the simulation laboratory and Audio-visual studio and promised that the university has drawn plan of sustainability of the project by beginning to recruit some of the project staff on permanent basis.

Dr. Mugahi Richard, Commissioner of Maternal, Reproductive and Child Care at Ministry of Health Uganda said there is need for the country and higher education institutions like Gulu University and Lira to create a friendly implementation environment in order to produce health workforce that is able to deliver the health outcome on Sexual Reproductive Health.
“The intersectionality between Preaching, Policy and Practice (PPP) is very critical for us to achieve desired result on Sexual Reproductive Health. For every implementation to be successful, there must be a conducive policy environment,” said Dr. Mugahi
The contribution of Gulu University and Lira University in winning seed grants on the subject matter of the conference doubled with support from local evidence of research from the seed grants contributed to the running theme of the international gathering titled. “Improving the Quality of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through Pre-Service Training, Research, and Evidence-Based Clinical Care Delivery in Sub-Saharan Africa”.
The Conference that started on September,17th ,2025 from Acholi Inn Hotel with a tour of Gulu University Simulation Laboratory and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital is ending on Friday, September 19th 2025.
