FEMRITE Donates 17 Books to Gulu University
FEMRITE – Uganda has donated 17 literal books to Gulu University on Wednesday ,5th November 2025 as part of the 5th Poetry Poster Project that had 5 students of Gulu University published in their newly released Poetry Anthology ‘A Lunatic Sanity’.
The 5 students include Beatrice Atala a law student, Joan Kiden, Brian Kiiza, Tabitha Leka and Rehema Nakato all Language and Literature students in the Faculty of Education and Humanities.
Prof. David Okello Owiny, the Deputy Vice Chancellor In charge of Academic Affairs collected the books from Hilda Twongyeirwe the Executive Director of FEMRITE on behalf of the University and promised continued partnership with FEMRITE Uganda to nature writing talents of young people at Gulu University.
Prof. Owiny used the occasion to call for the activation of Writers Club in institution of learning as a strategy of creating a platform for young people to exploit their writing talents in schools.
He said the African Writers Series that developed talents for legendary writers in Africa needs to be continued however challenged the writers on the issues of artificial intelligence that could as well kill creativity. “Like every sector, I think writers need to debate and talk about artificial intelligence (AI) because it’s a threat in all sectors”. Owiny added.

Hilda Twongyeirwe, the Executive Director of FEMRITE Uganda thanked Gulu University for allowing the partnership. She added that the University has raw talents that needs naturing and the institution would not hesitate to work with the university any time.
She requested Gulu University to ensure the books are taught to the Language and Literature students as part of contemporary writings.
The meeting was also attended Prof. Okumu Charles one of the literary experts on Okot Pa Bitek writings at Gulu University.
The Poetry Poster Project is an initiative that started in 2007, bringing together poets and visual artists to co-create poetry and visual art into a book and poster publication.
Previously four Poetry Poster Projects have been carried out, resulting into four publications; Painted Voices Vol.1, Painted Voices Vol.2, Butterfly Dance and Go Tell Home. This was the fifth project that brought in universities like Gulu, Bishop Stuart, Makerere,Kabale ,Kyambogo and Muni as partners in the project.
