Ojok James Onono holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Gulu University and a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
He practiced journalism for over ten years and is well acquainted with the Media, Communication, and journalism landscape in Uganda. As a journalist, Onono did many investigative works that created change in the community, and the active journalism field remembers him for advocating for the restoration of the indigenous tree species in Northern Uganda after the LRA war through journalistic pieces and active activism with Humanity Race Foundation Uganda and ‘Our Trees, We Need Answers’ an environmental activist group. He is also known for having advocated for Albino Children in the region and drumming support for Agricultural extension services in Northern Uganda. Based on his excellent work in journalism and in the writing field as then journalist attached to 102, Mega FM, during the 38th TAREHE-SITA celebration in Kitgum in 2019, President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta decorated him with a national medal, order of the Crested Crane.
He joined Gulu University service as Assistant Public Relations Officer in March 2020 and later in April 2023 was elevated to Communications Officer. Onono holds a passion for communication and the media where he has research interest.
Onono has also published literary works that include, But My Heart, (2015), Heaven Will Never Wait, (2017), Justice in The Hague (2019) and Bitterness of the Trees and Other Stories (2023). These literary works have made him tour the world as a guest writer on Northern Uganda post war conflict issues.
