Dr. Proscovia Olango
Lecturer
Dr. Proscovia Olango was born on the 22nd of November, 1973 in Gulu City, Uganda. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science from Makerere University in 1998. She also has a Master of Arts Degree in Information Science and a PhD of Systems, Organisations and Management (SOM) Research School from the University of Groningen. Proscovia is currently Head of the Department of Computer Science at Gulu University and an ICT lecturer, consultant, practitioner and researcher with twenty years of experience. She is well acquainted with the latest developments in the ICT industry in Uganda and the world over.
As a researcher, Proscovia has done a number of community outreach activities that created an impact in the community for example ICT training, fresh students orientation, website design, and development, amongst others. A few of her published research works include:
A document enrichment approach to facilitate reading comprehension (2020); Effect of document enrichment on e-learning (2013); and Improving content comprehension and knowledge retention with Wikipedia (2011).
Proscovia joined Gulu University as Librarian II in the year 2003 then she was transferred to the then Faculty of Science Education as a Teaching Assistant in July 2004. In June 2007, Proscovia was appointed as a Lecturer in the previous faculty. Proscovia’s research interest is in document enrichment for facilitating reading comprehension by use of human language technologies like text-based information retrieval, semantic web, and natural language understanding and generation. Her major interest is in the area of blended learning, information management, and ICT for sustainable development.
