Dr. Sulayman is one of the longest serving members of the Gulu University Research Ethics Committee (GUREC), having joined it in 2010 when it was still called Gulu University Institutional Review Board (IRB) under the chairmanship of Prof. Emilio Ovuga. He thus holds a wealth of experience in this regard. As a member of the committee, Dr. Sulayman has attended a number of trainings on research ethics, reviews, and monitoring at various levels. He has also attended several Annual National Research Ethics Conferences (ANREC) organized by Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) as part of his personal as well as institutional capacity building.

Dr. Sulayman, a professional teacher, trained at Makerere University [BA (Hons) and Post-Graduate Diploma in Education]. He is a Lecturer in the Development Studies Department where he has served for eighteen years. He holds a Doctorate in Development Studies of Gulu University, and a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi. At both levels, (MA and PhD), Dr. Sulayman’s research focused on community participation in development in peace and post-war contexts. As part of his academic journey, he has participated in a number of international conferences (both at home and abroad). Dr. Sulayman has also authored and co-authored articles and book chapters.
