Bachelor of Education (Primary)
Rationale/Justification for the Programme
The Establishment of the University in Gulu District is intended to address the problem of regional imbalance in the distribution of Institutions of higher learning in Uganda, and to make those Institutions more accessible to the rapidly growing number of Diploma in Education (Primary) graduates to have the opportunity to acquire Bachelor’s Degrees in Education (Primary) to help to improve the quality of Universal Primary Education.
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) Degree Programme will, therefore, help to produce more Arts and Science (primary) Graduate Teachers and thus help to reduce the Student-Teacher ratio, thereby improving the quality of education at Primary School level. The programme will also help to address the Government’s need to improve the quality of teachers for the Primary Education. The programme intends to equip the teachers with the skills of self-directed learning, critical thinking and problem solving which they will be able to pass on to the children they will teach. The programme will therefore help to equip the teachers and consequently the learners with the skills of 21st Century, Sustainable Development Goals, National Development Goals and Uganda’s Vision 2040.
