Gulu University signs MOU with Agro-Max

Gulu University holding limited, a legal entity of Gulu University has on Tuesday signed  a memorandum of understanding with Agro-Max a renowned  Agri-Business company in Uganda at Gulu University Council boardroom.  Professor Openjuru George Ladaah the University Vice-chancellor who doubles as chairperson of board of directors of the University entity   and the University Secretary  who is one of the directors led the signing of the document on behalf of the University holding limited and Rony Josef Oved the Chief Executive Director of Agro-Max led his team during the exercise.

The collaboration  will see Agro-Max set up a specialized Modern Agricultural programme in Gulu University Moroto Constituent College  that would target young people who did not get formal education with hands-on skill in mechanized Agriculture. Professor Openjuru George Ladaah said the initiative will also support University graduates who want to be retooled in mechanized modern agriculture. According to Openjuru the young people have prioritized  getting certificates and degrees above knowledge  acquisition and skills applications which is becoming a cancer in the educational system.

"As an educationalist I  feel  disappointed because our students throughout the years put their efforts on getting the academic credential and fail to get the practical bit hence this collaboration is to bring to light practicality to its full potential "Openjuru said. He added that the collaboration is geared towards transforming the community with the first test in Moroto constituency college. Rony Oved, the Director of Agro-Max said they are happy to work with Gulu University on the initiative and said they are willing to have first intake by next year if all goes as planned. " We shall start with a short course of three to six months and see as we progress with time and the beneficiaries will never regret'' Oved said, "The training and courses will focus on Tractor operation, Mechanics for Agri-Equipment, Farm Management, fish farming, horticulture among others".
