Gulu University Staff and Students joined United Nations Agencies in Uganda and other Institutions of Government and Non –Government including members of the Public for the Sustainable Development Goals Run (SDGs) that took place on the 22nd of October 2023.

The Five Kilometer Run was flagged off by the State Minister of Northern Uganda, Grace Kwiyucwiny Freedom witnessed by Gulu District Chairperson Opiyo Christopher Ateker, Gulu Deputy Mayor, Olok Christine, Gulu University Vice-Chancellor Prof.Openjuru George Ladaah and Dr. Fabian Mwanyumba UN Area Coordinator among other officials.

The Run started from the traditional Gulu District Headquarter along Airfield Road in Gulu City in the morning and ended in Pece Stadium via Sir Samuel Baker Road with a right turn from the Roundabout near Watoto Babies home to the Ring-Road in Layibi and Pece divisions in Gulu City.

In the Run, Oyoo Walter, a third-year student of Gulu University pursuing a Bachelor of Procurements emerged as the winner and was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Minister.

The day was crowned with a football match between Gulu District Local Government Representatives and United Nations Agencies staff.

This was all part of the pre-events for the commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the United Nations Day for Uganda the national celebration for UN Agencies are currently happening in Gulu City.

The United Nations reported that the spirit of ‘Leaving No one behind’ and popularizing the SDGs at the grassroots level is the main reason why the national celebration is coming to Gulu City.
