Gulu University signs MOU with University of Groningen, Netherlands
Gulu University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Groningen, Netherlands on Thursday 2nd October 2025 at the Gulu University Council Boardroom.
Prof. Davy David Okello Owiny, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Gulu University who represented the VC Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru signed the deal with Dr. Josje van der Linden, UNESCO Chair Lifelong learning, Youth and Work on behalf of President of Groningen University, Prof. Jouke de Vries.
While giving his welcome remarks, Prof. Owiny expressed his gratitude to Groningen for the collaboration and pledges the support of Gulu University management in strengthening this relationship.

Dr. Josje on the other hand said the MOU is a great deal in ensuring smooth scientific and educational collaboration between the two higher institutions of learning especially in line with the Gulu University Motto “For Community Transformation”

The purpose of the MOU is to provide for staff, scholars and students exchanges, exchange of academic information and materials for the enhancement of research and educational processes at both universities, and increase of mutual understanding among the staff, students and scholars in the two institutions.

Dr. Stephen Odama, the coordinator for Gulu University Open Distance, Electronic and Lifelong Learning (ODELL), said the MOU marks a significant step in strengthening partnerships in education, research, and community transformation.

While discussing the MOU, the two universities agreed to promote exchange of staff, students and scholars, exchange of academic information and materials, Joint Research activities and publications, and participation in conferences and academic meetings.
