Gulu University shines at the Sexual and Reproductive Health Conference in Kigali.

Gulu University Sexual and Reproductive Health Resource Center managed to get 25 abstracts at the Center for International Reproductive Health Training of the University of Michigan (CIRTHT) 2nd international conference that took place in Serena Hotel, Kigali, Rwanda from 5th to 7th of October this year.

The conference’s theme was centered on sexual and Reproductive Health: ‘Informing Policy and Practice through Research and Preservice Training.

Dr. Francis Pebalo Pebolo the head of the Centre at Gulu University who headed the team to Kigali said he is very pleased that out of the 106 total abstracts around the globe, Gulu University was able to get 25 slots which included health workers from affiliated teaching hospitals that is Lacor hospital and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH).

Dr. Pebalo said the acceptance of the abstracts shows the great concern of the world to learn on matters related to sexual and reproductive health in the post-conflict northern Uganda as well as provide the opportunity for the young health experts from the region to partner with other international mentors who are eager to learn from the region’s cases as far as sexual and reproductive health issues are.

“This was an opportunity to sell and learn, we are young and the future is bright for us taking the line of sexual and reproductive health in the region”. Said Dr. Pebalo.

Three students of the Faculty of Medicines who were part of the team that included Okot Jerom year three student said the conference was eye-opening as it inspired him to do more research for various policy evaluations and analyses for the betterment of the community as far as sexual and reproductive health is concerned.

Other notable participants from Gulu University included Dr. Bongomin Felix Aspergillosis expert and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Lamwaka Alice Veronica the Principal investigator of COVID-19 One, the herbal concoctions for COVID-19, Dr. Beatrice P’Odong, pediatrician and lecturer at faculty of medicine among others.
