Gulu University successfully hosted the Uganda Open International Woodball Championship that took place from 4th to 5th November 2023 from the Faculty of Medicine and drew participants from all over Africa.
Obol David Otori, the Gulu University Secretary who was the chief guest appreciated the Woodball Championship for choosing Gulu University as their venue.
He added that he is happy that the Woodball sport has considerations for all age groups and is very balanced when it comes to gender since it encourages female players too.
Kayongo Paul Mark, the President of the Uganda Woodball Federation said bringing the game to Gulu is part of their strategic plan to promote Woodball throughout the country and the next open championship would go to Soroti City in 2024.
He also launched the Woodball Association of Gulu with Opiyo Francis the Gulu caretaker Dean of Students as the Chairperson of the Association.
In the women’s team category overall, the Ministry of Public Service won the first position and Ndejje University came second and Makerere Business School was second meanwhile in the Men Category, Ndejje University came first, followed by Uganda Prisons and Makerere Business School was third.
