Gulu University Fights HIV/AIDS Stigma

Gulu University Fights HIV/AIDS Stigma.

Gulu University in conjunction with the Uganda AIDS Commission launched rapid enforcement in the fight against HIV/AIDS Stigma among the youth at Gulu University and other Higher Institutions of Learning in Gulu.

Speaking during the launch against HIV/AIDS stigma on Saturday, 10th of June 2023, Gulu University Guild President Okot Francis said they are committed as young people to end AIDS by 2030.

“As the student leaders, we are spearheading the move to Stop Stigma and End AIDS by 2030. The three Core to end AIDS by 2030 is to have zero new HIV infections by 2030, Zero Stigma by 2030 and Zero HIV related deaths by 2030”. The Guild President observed.

According to him there is still ignorance existing among the young people which shows the need for more awareness creation.

“The youth are very strong and sexually active group with need for adventure but this needs to be guided. Even healthy looking people maybe HIV positive. The youths are encouraged to test because their HIV negative status expires each time they have unprotected sex”

The Zonal coordinator Uganda AIDS Commission, Mr. Victor Rwengabo assert the need for the youth to rally for the possibility of achieving to end AIDS by 2030 following the Presidential Fast-Track initiative to End aids by 2030.

He affirms the commitment of the Commission to support the young people as crusaders to ensure it achieved.

The University Counselor Madam Grace Olive explained the need for more funding and support to the University directed towards HIV/AIDS services.

Other institution that attended included National Teacher’s College Unyama, University of Sacred Heart ,Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development among others.
